Hey all...Christian kindly allowed me to post a story on his blog.  I have a passion for fly fishing but I'm admittedly a weekend warrior. I do also have two other passions. Creative writing and mushrooms.  Yes, I said mushrooms.  I have so much passion that I took on a business, Drink of the Gods, a mushroom supplement drink.  Now I spend more time slinging mushroom drinks than fly fishing and writing so I'm not sure if I did the correct thing.  Either way, this allows me to do all three.  I hope that you enjoy my plugging of my brand and the fun, somewhat fictional tale or should I say tail?

Jack’s boots snapped twigs and crunched frost as he tromped down to the river just as the sun peeked out. The current tugged at his legs, the riffles shimmered, and the occasional sip was seen across the glassy sections of water. The air had that crisp snap to it, like it was whispering, “Pay attention, man.”  

Time slid by, and Jack couldn’t believe how dialed in he felt. Normally, he’d be dragging by now, but not today. He caught every little thing. The glint of a trout darting through the riffles, the hum of bugs skimming the bank. His casts were on point, flies landing like they had GPS to feeding zone locations. He hadn’t felt this locked into the river in forever.

By sunset, he’d let a slew of gorgeous trout slip back into the water. But it wasn’t about the haul this time. It was about being there...really there...sucked into the moment like the world made sense again. Packing up at the end of his beat, he felt this deep, easy calm. The river had handed him a gift, and he’d grabbed it with both hands and those hands were covered in the smell of glycoprotein (mucus slime).

Trudging back to his Toyota, Jack chewed on it. Something was different, not just his fishing, but how he saw everything. He was already itching to get back out there.
