FFIP Certified: How to Find a Guide or Lodge You Can Actually Trust

A few years back, one of our members — Todd — booked a guide he found through a Facebook group for a weekend on water he'd never fished. Five-star reviews, slick website, the works. He showed up at the ramp and the guy hadn't run a trip in over a month, the boat needed work, and half the day was gone before they ever wet a line. Todd's not an inexperienced angler — he just had no way to actually vet the guy beyond a handful of reviews that, for all he knew, could've been written by the guy's cousin.

That's the real problem with finding a guide, lodge, or outfitter cold: the water's the easy part to research. The person or business standing between you and that water is the part you can't see from a website. So I built something to fix it — the FFIP Certified directory.

What FFIP Certified Actually Is

FFIP Certified is my personal endorsement, based on my own vetting, that a guide, lodge, or outfitter meets FFIP's standards for fishery quality, guiding, hospitality, and service. It's not a paid badge mill — I look at the operation and the water before anyone gets certified. And it's not a guarantee you'll catch fish, either. Nobody can promise that, and I wouldn't trust anyone who does. What it does mean is that the people running your trip are the real deal: licensed, insured, safety-first, and willing to put their name behind their work — because if they don't hold up their end, their certification is on the line, not just their online reviews.

Think of it like a buddy's recommendation, except the buddy actually did the homework instead of just vibing off a website.

How to Use the Directory

Head over to the Certified Guides & Lodges page and you'll find every partner filterable by Region, Water Type, Service (guiding or lodging), and Species — tap a few filters and the list narrows instantly to exactly what you're after. Found a good match? Click through to their profile, and book direct. No FFIP fee, no code, no middleman — the same price you'd pay calling them cold, minus the part where you're calling them cold.
