Tip

Tip: Use a deep indicator rig with a long fluorocarbon leader and short tippet

How to do it: Rig 20 to 25 feet of fluorocarbon, sometimes to 40 feet, plus 5 feet of tippet, with barrel swivels at each end

Mistake it fixes: Using a standard short leader for deep stillwater fish

Why it works: Deep fish need a rig that actually reaches them. A long leader puts the fly at depth while the indicator stays on the surface.

When it matters most: Stillwater, deep fishing
