Questions
Custom fly tyer directory FAQ
- What is a custom fly tyer?
- A custom fly tyer is an independent tyer who ties flies by hand and sells them directly to anglers, often tying patterns to order for a specific river, hatch or trip.
- Fly tyer or tier: which spelling is correct?
- Both spellings are used. Tyer is the modern spelling used by most fly fishing publications, and it avoids confusion with tier (a level or row). Tier is the older dictionary spelling. Fly Fishing Insider uses fly tyer.
- How do I find a fly tyer near me?
- Use the map to see tyers by location, or filter the directory by state, country, species and fly type. Check "Takes custom orders" to see tyers who will tie to your spec.
- Does FFIP sell these flies?
- No. Every tyer sells directly. FFIP lists tyers so anglers can find them; orders, pricing and shipping are handled by each tyer.
Listings are compiled from information each tyer publishes about their own business. Fly Fishing Insider does not endorse or guarantee any tyer. Are you a tyer? List, update or remove your listing.
