Travel Protection Through Frontiers

What Frontiers Handles

Travel Protection Through Frontiers

Frontiers International Travel recommends travel protection on every trip and offers U.S. travelers a plan from Arch Insurance Company. Timing matters: pre-existing medical conditions are covered only if you buy within 14 days of your trip deposit, the plan must be bought at least 11 days before departure, and the price is based on your trip cost.

Why insure a fishing trip at all?

  • Deposits: many lodge deposits are non-refundable, and a lodge week is a large number to lose to a family emergency or illness.
  • Remote water: the best fishing is often hours from a hospital, so medical evacuation coverage matters more than on a city trip.
  • Your health plan may stop at the border: Medicare generally does not cover care outside the United States.
  • Weather and flights: a missed connection on a trip built around a fixed lodge week can cost days of fishing.

What does Frontiers offer U.S. travelers?

Frontiers' U.S. travel protection page recommends adding a plan to your reservation and points to coverage from Arch Insurance Company (Arch Insurance Solutions). The two timing rules above are the ones that catch people out, so decide on coverage when you pay your deposit, not the week you leave. Coverage limits, exclusions and claim steps are set by the policy itself; read the plan documents on the Frontiers page before you buy.

Is travel insurance required?

For U.S. travelers, Frontiers recommends travel protection rather than requiring it. Frontiers' UK office is different: its booking conditions make suitable travel insurance a condition of travel, covering cancellation, medical care, evacuation and repatriation. Either way, check whether your lodge has its own insurance requirement.

Questions to Ask Your Frontiers Specialist

  • What does the Arch plan cover for this trip cost, and what would it cost?
  • Does it include medical evacuation from a remote lodge, and up to what limit?
  • Does my lodge require proof of insurance?
  • What are the exact deadlines for my deposit date and departure date?
